In my Bag

I’m often asked about the equipment I use to take my photos, so I thought I’d share with you all ūüėÄ

First of all, how CUTE is the camera bag Ryan got me for Christmas?! ¬†I showed it to him months and months ago, afraid that the girl would run out of this kind quickly and it would be too late. ¬†And wouldn’t you know? ¬†Ryan was able to get me the very last one in this style. ¬†:)

Now on to the technical stuff.

My #1 go-to is a Canon 5D Mark II. ¬†Ohhh, how I love this camera. ¬†I shot on a Rebel XTi for years and it was great, but if you’re happy with your crop sensor, never go to full-frame or you’ll never go back. ¬†(We still have our Rebel for back-up, and we also have a 7D that Ryan uses for video.)

My favorite lens is a Canon 50mm f/1.4. ¬†Absolutely gorgeous, and nice and small for easy toting. ¬†The one downside is that you have to be far enough away from your subject – no “across the dinner table” shots with this guy…

…and for that reason, my second choice is our Canon 24-70mm f/2.8. ¬†It takes great pictures and is perfect for getting wide and close-up shots without having to move. ¬†It’s obviously a much more versatile lens, but let me tell you in case the picture doesn’t – it’s a hoss. ¬†I get a bruise in the same spot on my hip whenever I carry my camera around with this dude attached to it. ¬†But y’all know it’s worth it to me!

I love shooting outdoors in the natural light. ¬†I am always so, so much happier with those pictures. ¬†However, there are some situations in which I can’t avoid the need for artificial light, much to my chagrin. ¬†We have a Canon Speedlite 270EX. ¬†(We’re not brand loyal or anything.)

If you are thinking about getting an external flash, I would advise that you invest in one that can turn any which way Рyou could reflect light off of the ceiling, a wall, a bounce card, etc.  Ours can only rotate up and down, which is fine with me because I seldom use it and I can always rotate my camera if need be.  If I have to use a flash (sigh ;)), I am happy with this one.

And there you have it Рmy most frequently used equipment.  Thanks for stopping by!

If you had to add a third lens to your arsenal, what would you want it to be?
